I shopped online for hours before deciding on this laptop tray. I looked at the super-adjustable ones with multiple hinges in the legs (they look like robots!), and at several plastic ones that fold up to the size of a laptop, and that have cooling fans. Ultimately, I went with this one because of the metal legs that looked like they wouldn’t snap off in a heartbeat. I was not disappointed! This is thing is really heavy duty. And heavy. I wouldn’t recommend it if you plan on travelling with it (it’s big and heavy), but for home use on the bed or couch it is AWESOME. I actually bought mine from the OfficeMax store because the one they are selling now has a cup holder with an actual bottom (like a basket, instead of the simple ring in this model), so I can use it for pens or whatever too, not just a drink. The leg height is adjustable and the legs fold in underneath to make it flat for easy storage. I LOVE it, and expect it will last for quite a long time.

It took me ages to pick this out, mainly because of the amount of fake reviews on amazon. I decided to take some time reviewing this because I appreciated the real reviews. I wanted a tray that I could use for my laptop and for writing. This lap tray reminds me of miniature computer desk you could get at wal-mart or target. It more sturdy then the picture looks.

Good: fairly solid; reasonably sturdy and not too heavy. The surface is actually pretty good, and when down the seams are flush. Definitely good for a laptop and writing, however I would not leave your laptop on it (falls over). Not so good for a tablet because does not tilt high enough, which given the design of the lid is probably a good thing. The legs do not collapse and fold under easily. The size is the best thing about it. I think it was one of the few things they got exactly right. As an average sized female, I find it comfortable and I would imagine that a larger person would like it too. (It’s too big/heavy to use while traveling.)

Bad: unbalanced; the legs are too lightweight and narrow and the desk falls forward in bed. Meaning it does not stay upright on its own bed. You have to brace it with your legs if your bed is too soft, but the weight of a laptop can help balance it. It may work better on a couch, and would work very well on a coffee table. The top doesn’t latch and falls open. I would not recommend letting children or elderly use this tray. The lid falling open makes it’s easy to drop and could hurt if it slammed on your hands. Aside from it being a bit unwieldy to pick up, the hardware is positioned well and there aren’t any obvious sharp edges. I would not recommend attaching the cup holder, it screws in underneath, and aside from making it more cumbersome, you may end up with coffee all over your bed/couch/clothes. It might be ok if you don’t use it in bed. I would also not use this table to set food on, just end up with a mess.

In all, its a good deal for the price and you may find it quite useful. The good surface makes up for it’s instability on a bed. Not much assembly, just need a screwdriver to attach the plastic bumper and cup holder (bad idea). I would really only recommend this for people aged 15-60 who have no physical disability. I’m not sure if there are ones really any better out there, though I would have certainly paid more for a better one. You may be disappointed but not pissed.

I think my review is realistic… I searched through all the different products and all the reviews, good and bad. I have a huge laptop and I wanted something that would hold it and still have room for my mouse to sit comfortably next to it. This product is the perfect size! Now I will say that I gave up the option of finding a tray that was vented or had a fan, but then I decided that I probably didn’t need it anyways. Using this tray is just like using it on a table anyways and my laptop works just fine on it. I did read the reviews that were written complaining about the tray falling over if set aside. My comment is not to be rude, but honestly, I wouldn’t expect something like this to hold itself up on a soft surface such as a bed or couch. The legs easily fold under so if I need to get up, I just quickly fold them in without removing my laptop and set it aside. Problem solved. This also makes it nice for storing out of the way. Another thing I consider after reading reviews on other products was the amount of room under the tray. One individual has commented on another product that it was a tight fit- so reconsider if you were a bigger person. I will say this particular tray gives plenty of leg room! I do not have much use for the height adjustment (the tray side that angles up) but I can see it being handy for my kindle, reading materials or writing while in bed or on the couch. There are several options for adjusting the height and the metal bar holds it without slipping out of place. I have not screwed in the cup holder, it seems handy but I wasn’t ready to commit to that part yet. The price is great for the product you are getting. I am very happy with mine!
