I’m glad I got a screaming good deal on this (not through Amazon), otherwise I would be very disappointed. The concept is great – with a fold ‘n go case. And DO set it up without the kids around because for some reason mine seemed to need some warming up before I could get one of the cars to really get going (?). Bottom line – they fly off the course quite often and often have trouble passing over the joints where the fold ‘n go case folds. But it’s pretty fun and got better and better once it seemed “warmed up”. I could only get one of my cars going, though, and finally saw the reason why. The other car was missing its little peg in the front (the part that sticks down into the track (the slot?), which I then (amazingly) found in the box. I guess I’ll see if I can glue it – and if not maybe the good people that sent it to me will provide a replacement car. I’ll update my review once I hear from them and then also once my children play with it. So far, just me!

This would have been a successful toy…

…had the makers put any thought into quality.

One of the controllers was already broken by the time I opened the box. I used a tester and confirmed the circuit was damaged. I ventured to open it to confirm the problem and attempt a fix. I saw barely a dot of solder holding the cable to the connectors. Trust me. The toy won’t last past its first slight yank.

I chose this track because it was the only one that appeared to be rated for younger kids (I was giving this to a 3 yr old). It doesn’t plug to the wall so I figured it would be a safer choice for a slot car. My son would have loved playing with it. I would have been willing to pay a little more to get something more durable…. Instead I ended up feeling like I bought him a cheap toy and both he and I were disappointed. I guess wait for another slot car product to come out by a different maker, or for your child to age 4-5 more years 🙁

I agree with some of the findings on the products usability by other reviewers (hard to crank to advance the cars evenly).

Look elsewhere for a slot car set.

My 33 year old son and I had fun with it. My 5 year old granddaughter didn’t quite have the perseverance to keep going with it. One must crank pretty fast to get the cars to start from a standstill. After they are moving one can slow down a little. There is a direct link between cranking speed and car speed (no storage) and no freewheeling. If you stop cranking, the car stops. one has to slow down for the curves so if you get a rhythm of slower then faster cranking you can make good lap times.
the fold up feature is nice, and it can be set up in a mater of a minute, pack up is likewise fast. I like the “kid powered” feature.
