Very warm and stylish, with some caveats though, December 28, 2013

Arthur Zhang (New Jersey, USA) –

These jackets run short; I’m 5’10 and usually wear a medium, but on this, it was far too short. It fit just fine otherwise though. I moved up to a large and it was a bit baggy but the length was good. I also like that this one doesn’t have the plasticky nylon look a lot of down jackets have. On the downside however, the material on this isn’t water repellent and can and will get wet, which is very bad for down as it takes forever to dry and loses all it’s insulating properties when wet.

The down isn’t very good quality (doesn’t even list the fill rating [pretty sure it’s quite low] and it’s only 60% down, the rest are feathers, plus it just says waterfowl down, rather than goose or any other specific kind of down) but it makes up for that with quantity. This is a VERY poofy jacket with a lot of down shoved in the baffles (down pouches). It ends up being extremely warm, almost too warm for 30 degree or so weather. Also, the rabbit fur lining is extremely soft and very warm as well (you won’t even need a scarf with it). The only annoyance with the fur is that the fur is too wide and overlaps the zipper area, so it gets caught in the zipper easily. You have to hold back the fur and carefully and slowly zip the collar back on to prevent this. For those looking for similar styles, Andrew Marc New York Men’s Down Jacket Puffer Coat this is identical but has the plasticky nylon outside (which is water-repellent).

All in all, a nice, stylish, warm jacket. Before purchasing though, you should realize that cleaning fur and cleaning down are more annoying than cleaning a synthetic jacket. For down, you should wash cold on low spin, and then dry it with tennis balls in the dryer. For fur, use a fur solution and follow its instructions, or use cornmeal or similar methods.

    UPDATE-

Ok I’ve been wearing this jacket everyday for almost 2 months now and I’ve had to lower my original rating by a star. The design of this jacket is great; the micro-fleece lined pockets really keep your hands warm, and the micro-fleece cuffs help as well (though it’d be better if there were was a way to tighten the cuffs). The rabbit fur collar is unbelievably comfortable and keeps your neck and face warm. Also, the insulated hood is extremely warm as well, and can be drawn tight for extra wind protection and warmth. I wore this jacket in 0 degree weather with -20 degree windchill and was perfectly warm.

However, many flaws have popped up since I’ve started wearing the jacket. The polyester pills like crazy, especially on the inner portions of the sleeves. Not only that, but down and feathers constantly erupt from the jacket (I’m guessing they didn’t add a lining to prevent this, like most down jackets do/) Also, for some reason, the stitching keeps popping out everywhere. It hasn’t impaired the function or caused any bursting at the seams yet, but it’s an annoyance. Another more negligible annoyance is that they didn’t add any baffles on the arms; after a bit of wear the down tends to get pushed out of the elbow joint area, leading to heat loss in that area. I only really noticed this in single digit weather, but again, it’s an annoyance. Also, there’s the elastic band at the bottom. It’s too tight and causes the jacket to ride up and puff up. Finally, this jacket is absolutely terrible for cold weather or heavy exertion; down loses all it’s insulating properties when wet. The polyester shell on this is highly absorbent and soaks up water easily. Also, when heavily sweating, the inside of the jacket grows very damp.

All in all, a better investment would probably be to buy a north face down jacket with a more durable outer shell, but I haven’t seen any down jackets with a fur collar like this one from any other manufacturer. The fur collar really makes this an amazing jacket to wear. I do like the look of the polyester outside much better than a standard nylon down jacket, but I’d really have to recommend the nylon version of this as it doesn’t have the pilling issue, and probably doesn’t have the down and feather erupting issue, or at least, not to this degree.

This jacket is super stylish, comfortable, and and warm. Keeps me warm in 10 degree F. In 32 F temp i wount sweat but anything above i have to loose sweater and wear it over a tshirt unless i planned to spend 8 hours outside straight. It gives superb comfort, soft to touch, outer fabric very soft, inner slick and good quality. Gets wet while snowy so id not recommend for snowfall or rain. Fur collar detachable, hood as well. Kinda puffy but not too much. Runs short at the bottom but if you dont bend a lot then no problem at all, it is meant to be short. True to size. Again, this jacket is very very comfy, and modern. 150$ is a steal as retail price is 380$. 5 stars. This is my favorite winter jacket i ever had. Recommend for all.
