I bought this for my 8 year old nephew and he LOVED it! I have since added other Snap Circuit kits to his collection, and these are things he uses over and over. He and his Dad have used them with their Scout troop, big hit there as well. I was so impressed that I added the Snap Circuit line as a suggestion for toys on a Christmas list for a charity I work with, and many members of the group purchased them for an orphanage in Africa where there are many older kids. They were delivered at Christmas and our representatives showed the workers how to use them. I was thrilled recently to receive a video of the kids (and the adult workers there!) just having a ball with them! The huge smiles, laughter and eyes wide with wonder were amazing to watch! One of their favorites is the Snap Circuits Musical Recorder, they received several, and the kids fight over this one! They provide a very unique learning experience for the kids there who otherwise would not have a chance to see how these kinds of things work. Very, very highly recommended!

My autistic then 10 year old played with this and absolutely loves it. My husband said he used to have a radio shack version similar but made out of cardboard when he was a kid. This plastic set is a wee bit fragile so some care does need to be taken about that.
We have since wowed 2 classes at school with this and he used it in a science fair and the 6 year old has even put it together.
It is quite the hit at our house!
I like it over the larger kits because it is smaller (less pieces to loose/break) and is a pretty quick gratification (goes together fairly quickly).
It is well worth the money but is a gateway drug to wanting the larger kits (but that is what grandparents and santa are for!).

my bright 8 yr old was very excited and was able to put the flying saucer project together by himself. He did the two other projects also. he then quickly lost interest. he wanted the bigger package where he could do much more projects. i should have bought him the sc-300 or at least the sc-100 package because that includes the flying saucer also and many more projects. this pkg does not get you the biggest bang for the buck.
