I have only skimmed through this book so far, but it is based on research done of the Cherokee during the 1880’s. It contains “formulas” or prescriptions written in the actual Cherokee language, translations and then explanations of each one. These “formulas” were actually written out by the Cherokee medicine men, and the explanations describe both the religious and medicinal practices and beliefs. There is a selected list of plants used, description of medicine dances, explanation of color symbolism, and much, much more. Anyone interested in the Cherokee traditions and history should enjoy this book. This is a public domain book.

This book almost has too much information in it. It is filled with great lore of the Cherokee Indians. Not light reading, but interesting for those that want to know more about the Great Cherokee Nation as it was.

This book is very negative about the Cherokees and about their medicine ways. I don’t see the point of publising such a negative account of those beautiful people.
