After bending the circle and full-well realizing that I knew I was going to do a few more of these images, I decided that perhaps there should be a level of underestimated "tension" that should be visualized as I had originally thought. After producing a few other images in the same relation, of which I didn’t particularly enjoy, I found this one to be more interesting. It often seems as though during the progress of creating something from a previous idea, whether it had been an idea a few days prior, months, or even years before, the progress takes a swing and will gradually veer off into another direction, whereas when completely improvising, there seems to be a ‘wheel of fortune’-like binder — one that continues to open, clipping the paper in, to then unopen and release the paper from its strangle — where an introduction of wide-lensed recognition becomes relatively expanded versus that of the compressed idea that had been circling the mindscape for a few days, or whenever. I am, however, not stating that I am completely oblivious within the containment of such expressions, but I’ve found (with photography as well as with creating anything) that the plane of expression becomes xerophytic in the sense that what is in the mind is literally ‘wanting’ to be released. There’s a particular "hight" that diametricalizes each splinter, or goove-cut which places me in the mind-frame (before even photographing any ideas) of how I would want the viewer to ‘see’ it, so that perhaps they are able to ‘feel’ something, whether in clusters or bunches (or even smaller, it doesn’t matter, as long as it is something), or whether it is sympathy, comedy, fear, or an accumulation of deeply-rooted ramages. Perhaps this is one reason why I like to consider myself a "Pinecone", because a Pinecone can be the ‘ramus’ of an array of emotions for "others" to visualize.

The image here, which is the second and last image of this, I won’t say "set" because it’s only two photographs and I don’t really like to consider two photographs as being a ‘set’ although they are technically, if anything a "pair", is an image where, after having my initial idea grow and progress, like when getting to know someone in a personal relationship, became a more experimental ‘conception’ as time had passed, and was the rationalism of not only the repellent of something that nature/mankind often possesses, because of fear or what essentially becomes our emotional ‘state’ after realizing "why" we are acting like that, which often stems from what we think in our minds, which creates such a reaction towards what we expect, but also the logic that is usually behind it. One sees a dead fly. One may not react as ‘sadly’ as if it were their pet dog, fish, cat, etc.

It may be a lousy example, but "chess" here is very much a part of this image, but what lies beneath the conceptuality, is an even more redivivus curvature to think upon…

  1. awant-garde. can be taken as something that says so much, or nothing at all. kind of like a paradoxal nihilism. it’s not defined and that kind of makes it, though the blurb tries to tie it up and i think it might be in the way of its "in-between-ness". a fave for me.

  2. ok..you lost me somewhere in the mid’d’dle of the 2nd paragraph…I just can’t keep up!!!
    ๐Ÿ™‚

wonderful idea Derrick…and yes, you are the purveyor of the avant garde…truly. While I like the first of this ‘pair’ more on the slightly varied ‘layout’ and angle….the progression of a hooded player who has earned his rings..propels me into a notion of calmly accepting some dark wonder that has become an extension of an ultimate move. An equivalent of a ‘gloves are off’ tactic…making use of a deeper, uninhibited, self-less strategy or perhaps, while driving with ones eyes closed momentarily on an open road, decides to see how long it can be carried on for without any impact taking place….a prolonging of calculated circumstance.

The background seems almost a reflection of the game at hand…but an inverted one at that….

    loving all these levels!!!

    inspiring always
    ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Intuition is the word that springs to mind, Intuition..gut instinct, rationalised. Like when the hair on the back of your neck stands up.

Are things ever really what they seem, or what they were? Is the present a continuation of the past?..and that’s before we even mention the future.

  4. Ohhh but what do we have here??
    Further insanity-inducing lunacy???
A third party has joined the battle? Queen on Rook? Has he sunk deeper into his cognitive madness or is this further symbolism? The almighty omnipotent joining with one whom forever maintains the โ€˜straight and narrowโ€™?? Is this mirroring some inner rivalry or conflict?

Oh heck, I just have nooo idea! I just know that I sit mesmerized, entranced, wondering, thinking, exhilarated by the not-knowing!

I love, love LOVE how you continually push art – – photography and the written word – – forward!! You are so worthy of all things pinecone!!!

  5. well, seeing that you are properly handicapped, I might chance a game with you, dear Count. Besides this, since everyone could witness that you are suffering of advanced LUNACY, you might as well come over for a LUNATIC chess battle:

    Meet me THERE ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Hey, this deserves a wow from my end, mind intruiging. time to go to the yahoo.chess after few months break, only I am not familiar with these new rules of enagement (as depicted here), ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. (13b – 4) -4(36+1) = 6

    13b – 4 – 12b – 4 = -6

    b – 0 = -6

    b – 0 + 0 = -6 + 0.

    Ah!

I wasn’t really expecting each and every person who took their precious time to give this photograph a look to read my entire commentary up there. I suppose it depends on patience and really wanting to know what it is about, or as mentioned, a lack of time and/or patience that falls into the motions. But, either way, I am always happy that whomever decides to look and reply is always a huge blessing!

velco: Thanks for the comments and your input! Very-much appreciated! I like your views on the avant-garde. As far as I am concerned, ‘avant-garde’ is everything around us. It’s also a dwarf. It’s a pencil with feathers that resemble leaves on a branchless tree. For some, it is an equation that comes natural, or an equation that one must learn to which it with then become ‘natural’ to them after further investigation, or an equation that doesn’t exist whatsoever. I, for one, am vividly running through all that is represented in the permissions of my own mind/eye to continue the building process.

Craig: Your praise is always flattering, my friend! I am glad that you liked this one a bit better than the previous one. I found that there is more ‘relief’ in the other, and perhaps should have been posted second to this one. But, there’s no great wounds for any resolutions, so who’s complaining? ๐Ÿ™‚ …Always good to read your kindness…I’m always appreciative of it!

Karen: But then again, what if one doesn’t have hair on the back of their neck? Then what? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I for one, believe that everything is what they ‘seem’, because it’s what we do see. The past is a continuation of the past before it, in my opinion. I think people tend to over-rationalize way too much when it comes to the "science of things"…often plotting their own philosophies to essentially disturb a ‘truth’ just for the sake of their argumentive natures. But, then again, there are some people who just like to be creative, and that’s always a good thing. The world needs more creativity and artistic insight. Perhaps we should all think like children when it comes to being imaginative. Their sense of "what if" is out of this world. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, as always, for the insight/praise/comments, my friend! Thoroughly thankful! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ann: Haha! Perhaps all of them, yes. Lunacy? WHERE?! I thought later on, after posting this, that one might decipher this image as being sexual. And, well, they may have a point there, but my initial improvisational ‘vision’ fully sleeps from such thought, as I like what you said regarding the "inner rivalry", as that is so-very deliciously truthful and correct! Leave it to you to always come up with interesting/insightful commentary for my brain. It’s always enjoyable, I must say! ๐Ÿ™‚ …and, dear ann, my appreciation is beyond words!

Luna-carmilla: Oh, yes! I certainly must also confess that my ‘lunacy’, as it has been displayed as being in regards to this image, is nothing short of a circuit. I find something even better…an offer to play chess in the supreme districts of the Beyond!! I’m most certainly up for it! Thanks for the comments and the link! Don’t be surprised if I come roaring in at any moment! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Albanian: Why thank you! Not only for commenting, but visiting my page. I am thrilled! ๐Ÿ™‚ Although, I have found that MSN Chess is much better than Yahoo, but different strokes for different folks! ๐Ÿ™‚ …Thanks, again. Much appreciated of the comments and praise!

mel: If only the time comes when I shall envision such a beautiful ending to a masterpiece as that…

Perhaps this is the ending? Or is it obviously erased by some other ironed resolution?

Daniela: Well thank you as always, D! I am really happy that you take the time out of your time to respond and comment with your endless praises! Much love to you!…and to everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Oh dear Derrick!
I hope that I was clear when referring to the term "lunacy"! I’m referring to the lunacy this man suffers at the hands of this insanity-inducing game of strategy! (Certainly not insinuating that we have yet another ‘image of lunacy" posted by one DerrickT!). Clearly – – love this and love you ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Haha! Ann, I knew exactly what you you meant, my friend! In no way did I think you were replying with something negative…but I was just being sarcastic with my response! ๐Ÿ™‚ …Like, oh my, there was lunacy of this insane chess-player? Tell me WHERE did it go?! Ha!

I suppose I should have made it "sound" a bit more like a joking phrase! That’s what I get! …Please forgive me! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sending much love back to you! Thanks for coming back, by the way. ๐Ÿ˜€

  10. what a fantastic image! your imagination&creativity never ceases to amaze me..this has a very eerie feel to it..maybe because Im seeing a man in a doctors or butchers jacket..with a kind of execution hood over his head..the executioner and execute rolled into one playing a game wich will determin wich is wich, life or death..but deciding not to play..or changing rules..and as they are both one, there can be no outcome..
    pff I don’t know! haha
lots of meanings to be found
very thought provoking non the less ๐Ÿ˜‰

  11. Derrick: you have hair on your face! So why not on the back of your neck? ๐Ÿ™‚

The past is both a continuation of the past before it, and a break from it. It depends on where you are. I like a good discussion, it always helps to clarify things, so in that sense at least, there is no one’s own philosophy. As to whether things should be like the past, well, i’ve always been a subscriber to the theory of learning from the past, including the mistakes. That way, it gets better, don’t you think? We’ve discussed before that Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein didn’t just come out of the *fog* so to speak.

    But, there i go again…

As for thinking like a child: why not? There is such a thing as ‘over-egging.’ Over-complicating really quite simple issues; be that out of this world or not. ๐Ÿ™‚
